Method for Efficient Evaluation of Temperature Using the NASA Polynomials
Research Area: Acoustics
This research introduces a new method to more accurately and efficiently determine temperatures in high-speed flows, which is essential for applications like jet engines and hypersonic flight. The method improves upon traditional approaches by providing a faster, more stable way to calculate temperature based on known energy levels, which can help enhance the execution of simulations various aerospace technologies.
This study proposes an L2-optimal approximation approach to efficiently solve for temperature from enthalpy using NASA polynomials, common in high-temperature gas dynamics modeling. By projecting high-order terms onto a fourth-order polynomial, the method provides a closed-form solution for temperature, reducing computational load and instability often encountered with iterative root-finding methods, while also increasing the rate of convergence.
