Program Overview
The ND Power & Propulsion Engineering Internship offers students hands-on learning experiences in aerospace and mechanical engineering, allowing them to collaborate with industry partners and global experts during the 2026 summer. Interns are paired with ND P&P staff mentors to work on real-world projects, gaining exposure to industry customers and valuable engineering experience. The program covers a broad range of practical engineering disciplines, including design, testing, and analysis, helping students develop the skills and expertise needed for future career opportunities.
Learning Opportunities
The ND P&P Engineering Internship offers a wide range of learning opportunities and experiences for students, including:
- Test engineering, data collection, and analysis
- Instrumentation design, fabrication, and calibration
- Mechanical design and Computer Aided Design
- Systems control, computer programming, and electrical engineering
- Thermal, structural, and vibration analysis
- Thermodynamics and aerodynamics
- Computational fluid dynamics
Program Activities
- The program consists of 10 weeks of full-time engineering experience during the summer
- Weekly Lunch and Learns
- Professional development workshops and social events
- Opportunity to present at the Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium
- Opportunity to present in the 3MT Competition (3 Minute Thesis)
- Required to give an End of Summer Presentation to ND P&P staff
- Opportunity to give an End of Summer Presentation to industry partners
- Access to campus facilities such as University Health Service, RecSports, Smith Center, Duncan Student Center, and Hesburgh Library
Eligibility
To be eligible for the ND P&P Engineering Internship, applicants must be enrolled as undergraduates in an engineering degree program at a university or college by the start of the summer 2026 term. Aerospace and/or mechanical engineering majors are preferred.
Application Window
Applications are accepted from September 15, 2025 to November 10, 2025.
