    2004

    The University starts the Notre Dame Turbomachinery Laboratory (NDTL), now Notre Dame Power & Propulsion. Over the next 10 years, it continues to develop, including creating additional test capabilities and increasing its research portfolio.

    NDTL commits to build off-site facility in South Bend’s Ignition Park technology park.

    $50M Ignition Park Facility to support mid-TRL R&D testing for aero-propulsion and ground-based power generation commissioned.

  • Test Cell 1 at NDTL

    2017

    NDTL successfully executes its first high power component test at Ignition Park for an industry R&D partner.

  • Test Cell 3 at NDTL

    2018

    NDTL commissions its 10 MW compressor test cell to support the development of the next generation of aero-propulsion and power generation gas turbine engines.

  • NDTL Team Testing

    2020

    NDTL completes testing of a full-scale low-pressure compressor for a next generation commercial aircraft engine.

  • High Mach Test Stands

    2021

    NDTL starts facility expansion for high Mach aero propulsion engine technologies to support its R&D partners FGC Plasma and Hermeus.

  • Testing of the Hermeus Chimera TBCC engine including a successful demonstration of engine mode transition from conventional gas turbine to ramjet operation

    2022

    NDTL completes testing of the Hermeus Chimera TBCC engine including a successful demonstration of engine mode transition from conventional gas turbine to ramjet operation.

  • Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Sco2 Test Loop

    2023

    NDTL initiates testing of a 10 MW trans-critical carbon dioxide compressor with its R&D partner Echogen.
